Hair pretties

I stopped buying pretty hair accessories for Kayla a long time ago because of how expensive they have gotten over the past couple of years. Outrageous.
So I looked into ordering stuff to make my own and realized if I can make them for myself, then I can share with all my friends and who ever else loves little girl hair things. For a much better price.
So, over the past couple of weeks I been ordering things.
I don't have everything yet but I have some things.
Im so ready to have everything so I can start making more and selling them to all of you!

Here is one for sale! Price is only $2.00 and $3.50 with shipping. Let me know if you would like it. I accept paypal and can accept cash through the mail.

I have bought these before from other 'boutiques' and have paid upwards toward $9 each.
That is crazy! Im done paying that much for hair things that dont need to cost that much! Done!

Here is another one I have made a few days ago and sold 2 of them yesterday to my very first customer
who bought them for his nieces!

These are stretchy lace headbands with shabby chiffon flowers. I have many more styles of headbands and flowers with accessories on their way in the mail.

I also plan to make bows from ribbon once this pregnancy carpel tunnel issue is gone. As well as tutu's, hair bow holders and hats :)

Birthday Blocks

I made these Styrofoam blocks to use at Kayla's birthday party.
Just blocks of Styrofoam painted, with mod podge over and under the pictures and some glitter and embellishments. I plan to stack them on the food table and possible add her scrapbook of her actual birth day for people to look at.

Jolly Rancher Lollypops

Kayla's birthday is coming up. Her theme is beach and candy so....last weekend I tried out making jolly rancher lollypops. And it worked!
She never had a birthday party party before since Nick was always gone but this year he will be here and she will have the best birthday!

Yesterday I made Sea Glass candy.
That coming next!

My first pallet project

I turned a pallet into a hanging wooden flag!

And I love it!!

Its a lot more work then it appears though, but worth it. The pallet had to be sawed in half. Then the boards were so far apart that they all had to be removed (without breaking the boards) and nailed back on. That was a workout.

I have more projects with pallets in my brain! Started on another one this morning!!

This particular hanging will go into our guest room (Mimi's room) because it is patriotic themed. There is a giant wall in there with nothing on it. this will for sure take up the wall space and give it a pop of color!
Cant wait to see it hanging!

Do it yourself tub and shower cleaner

After making and using this, I wont but tub and shower cleaner already made in the store again.
This worked fantastic! It made the tub shine and cleaned off all soap scum!

All you  need is white vinegar and dish soap. The recipe said blue dawn dish soap but I went with the el cheapo brand and scented. And it worked just as good and smelled better...covered up the vinegar small a lot more.

Now I want to try the other do it yourself cleaners!
I have the ingredients for DIY laundry soap, but haven't gotten a container to make it in yet.

  • 12 ounces white vinegar
  • 12 ounces liquid , blue dawn detergent

Directions:

  1. 1
Heat vinegar in microwave until hot and pour into squirt bottle.
  2. 2
Add the Dawn soap. Put the lid on and gently shake to incorporate.
  3. 3
You now have a powerful cleaning product that will melt soap scum and tub and shower buildup, clean sinks, appliances and just about anything. Just spray it on, scrub, rinse and be amazed. For tough soap scum build-up, spray the mixture on and allow it to sit as long as overnight. Then, scrub and rinse.

More craftiness!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Im a ditz and put the wrong year on here. Ooops.
And Im not a fan of that A. I want to get a wood A and paint it white and glue it on. So it still needs some minor adjustments. But overall, I am very happy with it.

Family blocks

I got these ugly blocks from a local Mormon owned thrift shop that we now love, for only $1 each.

And with some paint I turned them into this. Im not happy with how the 2002 looks and if it continues to bother me, I might re-do it.

And yesterday's run time, 2 miles in 17:44.

Crafty Photo Dump

*Tammy- if you are reading this, there is a spoiler in here! Just sayin!)*

I been doing lots of crafty things around here lately to keep busy. Its a little harder because of all out things being in storage but I am making due out of what I have here. I got the 'photo dump' idea from Mark. Thanks Mark. :)

Lately I been really liking anything made out of newspaper, and anything in a jar ;) I wish I had my craft supplies in storage...Id be able to come up with lots more things.

This was a container that held 2 quart packets of sugar free grape kool-aid. Covered it in newspaper strips, glue and a label from scrapbook paper, filled with candy and wrapped it as a Christmas gift. I also made a similar one with a PENS label on it.  My packages this year are obviously hand made items themed.

Lemon Sugar Scrub- is currently in someone's Christmas care package. Recipe is:
Begin my mixing 2 1/2 Cups of Sugar with 1 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Add in 4 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice {or scented essential oils to your liking}. This mixture will make enough to fill a 12oz. Mason Jar
Mix really well until a gritty paste forms and spoon into a glass container. {make sure your container has a lid that seals}

More salt dough ornaments. We actually made these ones for Tammy and Mark's fundraiser which we ended up cancelling so we kept them and divided them up into everyone's Christmas package along with the others that we made. Snowman faces and red, white and blue stars.

And for the jar- this is baby gift for Tammy and baby to be Hannah. Its a Pamper Me theme for mommy and baby, including tea light candles, q-tips, tea, band-aids, some duck shaped bath gel and a few other items not pictured here.

After the contents are used up it can be used as a spare change collection jar for a mommy and Hannah lunch date or outing.

I found a recipe for pumpkin spice sugar scrub, but when we moved into the condo I figured with no oven I couldn't bake so I gave my pumpkin spice away. Instead, I used ground cinnamon.
Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub{use as a hand scrub or body scrub}
2 Cups of Brown Sugar
1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
2 Tablespoons of Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 Cup + 1 Tablespoon of Sunflower, Safflower, or Vegetable Oil
Mix Brown Sugar, Granulated Sugar and Pumpkin Pie Spice together, making sure there are no lumps. Add in oil and mix well. I like to use Sunflower Oil that can be found in most health food stores. Sunflower oil, like other oils, can retain moisture in the skin. {Safflower Oil is very similar to the Sunflower} Alternately, you can use plain Vegetable Oil as well.
{I would omit using Olive Oil wth this one as the scent can be a little too powerful to mix with the warm scents of the pumpkin and brown sugar} These keep well in a sealed, sanitized glass container for months.
Just keep out of direct sunlight; as you would store the oil itself.
This would be the contents of a Birth Mother's Christmas package, which has kept me pretty busy.
1 recycled chip bag mini scrapbook album, 2 paper bag mini scrapbook albums, and 1 envelope mini scrapbook album as well as a handmade Christmas card with a picture of us inside, and some coloring pages Kayla did as well as her Halloween card (that got returned to me for extra postage and I cant figure out why because none of the other cards I sent came back requiring more) and her Thanksgiving card, as well as 2 circle cinnamon salt dough ornaments with each of the kids names one them.
And my favorite so far are these gift bags made out of newspaper, which I used for everyone's ornaments in their Christmas packages. I plan to give them to the ladies down in the lobby as well with salt dough ornaments in them. I also experimented with using wrapping paper and it turned out great but I prefer the newspaper ones.

"Road" made out of masking tape. Who would've thunk? So easy, so simple...

And my lastest food craving has been noodles...and style of Asian noodle but these...O M GOSH. Spicy Thai Noodles...yeah, over 3 days I ate entire box of angel hair pasta. And eating them with chop sticks is a must.
Recipe here:
Except I opted to use the toasted noodles over the peanuts. Less fat.

And there you have it.
For now anyways.
I did manage to get my hands on more than a dozen jars yesterday and a whole bag of ribbons....and I REALLY want to experiment with glitter. So watch out.

The last of the salt dough!

The last of the salt dough ornaments! Dad made a pretzel for this kids.
Mom made some letter K's and C's as well as hearts, and Christmas Trees.
And she also made candy canes!
Now enough of these until the next big Holiday. Probably Easter...

Salt Dough Ornaments

We, I, made these salt dough ornaments. Since all our things are in storage I had a hard time with what shapes to make. I only cut out circles from container lids that I had in the kitchen.
I used both recipies above. The top one was stickier and lasted longer and the bottom one smelled really good but dried out really fast and was harder to work with.
The next day I bought a box of 101 cookie cutters from a yard sale...so guess what Im making again?

To make the green I just added some green finger paint into the water.

This is me baking the ornaments in the oven. Yes, my oven...
Cant wait to move into a house!

The kids hand prints on a large heart.

Dont use Pam. I sprayed to sheet following the directions of one recipe and it made brown spots on the the ornaments. Dont use Pam. The ornaments wont stick!

I made a few name tags for gifts.

Some "buttons" I used the lid of a playdough container to cut out the circle and it make the circle imprint around the outside.

These are the cinnamon ones without color added. I like the look of those better.

Kayla's snowman pieces, which I will glue together after they are dry.

And today I will make more with my cookie cutters ;)
